If I could make one positive change to my daily life, what would it be?
I believe I need to change my outlook on things and adopt a more open minded attitude. My friends are frequently
telling me to be more open and to be more attentive to other’s ideas. Maybe its time I took
their advice and change the way I act of things and the way I present myself to others.
Changing the way I act on things will be a tricky and time-consuming challenge. Too often I let my temper
prevent me from reaching an understanding into another person. For example, my best friend knows just the right word
or words to trigger my anger. I need to learn to recognize these trigger words, ignore them and focus on the points
others are making. By seeing others views instead of just my own, I can become more open minded.
The next task I have to face in order to achieve my goal is related to my temper; it’s how I respond to
someone whose ideas differ from mine. Usually, I tend to overdramatize my responses. I become so intent on
pushing my thoughts that I try to shout out the thoughts to others. It will be difficult, but I have to learn
to keep my mouth shut and listen because that’s the only way I’ll hear another’s ideas. Then I can consider an issue from angles other than mine.
Becoming more open minded will be difficult but not impossible for me. However, if I want my friend
and others to accept my ideas, I have to open minded and listen fully to theirs.
Open mindedness could really be the positive change I need in life. If I can control my temper and
listen more and talk less, I can experience a more fulfilling discussion with others.
